rs10156191
A SNP in the AOC1 gene on chromosome 7. Its most notable genotype is T;T: Associated with Response to Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, see text of rs-page for discussion. Indicates poor histamine breakdown due to decreased DAO activity, compared to the CC allele.

rs10156191, also known as Thr16Met or T16M, represents a variant in the AOC gene on chromosome 7; this gene is also known as the DAO or diamine oxidase. The rs10156191(C) allele encodes the more common Thr amino acid at this position, and the (T) allele encodes the Met. The DAO Met allele is considered to encode a protein with lower metabolic capacity than the Thr allele. A study of 400 patients showing hypersensitivity to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) found an association with the 16M allele (OR 1.7, CI: 1.3 - 2.1, Pc = 0.0003) with a gene-dose effect (P = 0.0001). Association of single nucleotide polymorphisms in the diamine oxidase gene with diamine oxidase serum activities. Found reduced DAO activity for the minor allele and lower DAO mRNA expression for the homozygous minor allele.
