This SNP is primarily of interest as a proxy (i.e. substitute) for rs11385942, a SNP reported in an 2020 study to be associated with higher susceptibility to respiratory failure among COVID-19 patients. The minor allele of both SNPs is associated with somewhat higher risk; see rs11385942 for details. Note that rs10490770 is defined in dbSNP on the reverse (minus) strand. Therefore, as reported in the raw data from direct-to-consumer genotyping companies such as Ancestry or MyHeritage, the major/common ("good") allele for rs10490770 is 'T', and the minor/risk allele is 'C'. In SNPedia, those alleles are reported in accordance with the original orientation in dbSNP, and are therefore 'A' and 'G', respectively.
