rs116446171 is located 679bp downstream of the 3′ untranslated region of the EXOC2 gene on chromosome 6. A 2018 study finds that the minor allele, rs116446171(G), is associated with significantly increased (~20x) risk for a rare B-cell lymphoma, Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM)/lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (LPL); the odds ratio is 21.14, CI: 14.40–31.03, p = 1.36 × 10e−54. Note that since this condition is so rare (about 2,000 new cases in total are diagnosed annually in the US), having a 20-fold higher risk for the condition compared to people not carrying this variant means carriers of this variant still have a very low overall risk of being diagnosed with this type of lymphoma.
