aka c.67A>G (p.Lys23Glu or K23E) rs199815268 represents a rare, recessively inherited variant associated with chronic atrial and intestinal dysrhythmia (CAID). This mutation is identified primarily in the Quebec population and is assumed to have been introduced by a single founder about 900 years ago. A population-scale genealogy model has been developed for this variant based on 3 million married Quebecois, reconstructing the transmission history of the mutation and identifying the most likely early carriers of the mutation. The expected carrier rate is geographically mapped over the region, with the highest carrier rate of 1/155 mapped to Charlevoix and an Quebec-wide estimate of 1/600.
