rs908867 is a SNP near the brain-derived neurotrophic factor BDNF gene. In a study of , the rs908867 was associated with antidepressant response, with heterozygote carriers showing a better response than homozygotes. However, a critique of this study was published , indicating that this finding should be viewed as preliminary until more research is conducted for several reasons, to wit, "First, the study included not only major depression but also bipolar disorder patients; second, various antidepressants were used in this study, which could affect patients' responses; third, the frequency of the haplotype associated with treatment response is rare; and fourth, previous studies of the effects of single BDNF polymorphisms on antidepressant action have reported conflicting findings." A brain-derived neurotrophic factor haplotype is associated with therapeutic response in obsessive-compulsive disorder. Pharmacogenetics of antidepressant response.
