rs11761231 has been reported in a large study to be associated with rheumatoid arthritis, particularly in females. The risk allele (oriented to the dbSNP entry) is (C); the odds ratio associated with heterozygotes is 1.44 (CI 1.19-1.75), and for homozygotes, 1.64 (CI 1.35-1.99). The association between rs11761231 and rheumatoid arthritis did not reproduce in a North American population, emphasizing "the need to carefully account for population structure to avoid false-positive disease associations". Rheumatoid arthritis susceptibility loci at chromosomes 10p15, 12q13 and 22q13. Association of common polymorphisms in known susceptibility genes with rheumatoid arthritis in a Slovak population using osteoarthritis patients as controls. Representation of genetic association via attributable familial relative risks in order to identify polymorphisms functionally relevant to rheumatoid arthritis.
