rs445925 can be used as a proxy for rs7412, based on a correlation of ~0.76 - 0.87 in at least some populations. This is of use in genotyping ApoE status, since although rs7412 tags the ApoE2 allele directly, it (rs7412) is missing from many genotyping chips (such as some of those used by AncestryDNA, for example). In dbSNP orientation, rs445925(T) corresponds to rs7412(T) and therefore, at least when the association is true, establishes the presence of an ApoE2 allele. Note that this association does not hold in African (and African-American) populations.
A;A
Likely to have 2 copies of the ApoE2 allele, as long as rs7412 is not (C;C) or (C;T), and the lowest risk of Alzheimer's disease (among ApoE genotypes). Based on a statistical correlation in some populations; see discussion at rs445925. Presence of gs268 confirms E2/E2 status if present; most other ApoE genosets (such as gs270 or gs216) take precedence for establishing ApoE allele status over this rs445925 prediction if present.
