Notes

rs356168 represents a common SNP in an untranslated region of the SNCA gene on chromosome 4. The rs356168(A) allele yields a slightly reduced risk for Parkinson's disease compared to the more common (G) allele. An in vitro study of the effect of the rs356168(G) allele concludes it leads to increased transcription of the corresponding SNCA allele, which the authors feel is a credible explanation for the slight increase in risk for Parkinson's.
